About Us

On 18 July 1981, David geared up for his first race with a street driven '67 Plymouth GTX with a 383 engine and a 4-speed transmission. He won 1st place in C-M/P class with a time of 14.68. In 1982 he met Karma and continued to race the GTX while Karma started racing a '78 Corvette that ran in the mid 15's. They continued to race the GTX and the Corvette over the next few years while lowering the ETs of the GTX to mid 13's.

In 1983 David and Karma started building a tube chassis Plymouth Arrow and after problems from inexperience they decided to scrap the project and David started racing a' 71 Dodge Demon with a 340 small block running in the 12 second range.

In mid 1980's the team purchased a 1970 Plymouth Duster with a 440 big-block for Karma to bracket race. The Duster ran in the low 12's. For the next few years Demon changed to a big-block and changed engine combination on Duster and both were running in the mid to high 10 second ET's.

At this time construction started on a Dodge Daytona tube chassis car. Upon the Daytona's completion the car was sold due to another learning curve. After selling the Daytona the next project in order was a Dodge Mirada pro- style tube chassis to run super gas and super comp. While the Mirada was being finished Karma super gas and bracket raced Craig McCaugheys Dodge Mirada that was on loan. In 1995 the Dodge Mirada (Instant Karma # 4) was finished and running super gas and brackets through the 1996 season with a 440 engine and power glide transmission.

In 1997, a complete 572ci engine from Muscle Motors, Lansing MI was purchased. The engine was installed in the Mirada and went 8.70's in the quarter mile. Sold Mirada at the end of the 1997 season and purchased a new 1998 Undercover 4 Link Dragster from Kurt Damron. Installed, the 572 engine in the dragster and ran low 8's and high 7's. Karma bracket and super comp raced 1998 dragster, which was Instant Karma # 6 until end of 2000 season. We then sold the car to team mates Teddy Price and Nathan Naive.

For the 2001 season the team finished a 1999 Undercover 4-Link Dragster that was purchased new and raced through the end of the season using a 588ci engine. That car was sold at the end of the 2001 racing season. Some changes occurred in 2002 when the team purchased a 2002 Undercover 4 Link and started the season with a 588ci engine with new heads. They then built a 492ci engine and used it to great success. As the 2002 season was winding down they completed the 2001 Undercover 4 Link show type car and raced it at the Florida Winter Series at Bradenton and Moroso with the new-headed engine running 7.60's at 178mph.

Much has changed between 2002 and 2008. Such as, an absoultuly drop-dead gorgeous Undercover Motorsports Corvette Roadster that we crashed shortly after its debut. Several award winning Undercover Motorsports Swing Arm Dragsters have been driven by the two-driver team. The latest dragster is going 4.20's in the 1/8 and 7.00's in the 1/4 mile.

With 27 years of experience the team has tried a variety of different combinations; from slow street cars to Junior Dragsters, to back half door cars to Swing Arm dragsters, and to tube chassis door cars. Some of these combinations have worked great and some have failed miserably. Most all of the team's learning curve came from trial and error with very little help coming from race competitors. For this reason the team is happy and willing to share their knoweledge with anyone that needs help. This is partially the reason why they decided to start Instant Karma Racing Speed Shop.
